Local DJ & Promoter Jamie Lynch a.k.a CICADA has been an integral part of the scene in Cork for the last number of years, playing in venues across the city & country as well as curating dozens of shows under his CICADA SELECTS brand. Recently, he has moved to further champion local talent through the recruitment of several young artists as CICADA SELECTS residents. This weekend marks a new chapter for the group as they take the plunge internationally, performing in Glasgow’s Club 69 as part of an Irish takeover in collaboration with Glaswegian hosts PEAK, in an event also featuring Galway’s Translucent & Hard Techno powerhouse Luciid.

This is not the first time CICADA SELECTS has been involved in collaborations with different collectives, with this event coming hot on the heels of the Leeside debut of acclaimed Scottish DJ & producer Franck in early May, which was also a collaborative effort with the PEAK crew. Earlier collaborations forged by CICADA include events with Express & Translucent in Galway and Waterford’s Palace, forging links & relationships which continue to prosper, with many more shows in the pipeline for the upcoming year.

Collaboration features so heavily in the CICADA SELECTS programme due to the personal philosophy of Jamie. In his eyes, collaborations even in forms as simple as B2B DJ sets can bring a new lease of life to the community, generate creativity and provide opportunities for learning and development for the artists involved. For his CICADA SELECTS residents, opportunities to perform in different cities, each with unique crowds, energy & musicality, provide valuable experience in learning to adapt and grow in new environments. This experience serves to improve & broaden the skills of the artists, benefitting them in the longer term.
